Hawaii: Day 6

Today we went scuba diving at Molokini Crater and Turtle Town.

Hawaii: Day 5

We rented jeeps and drove "The Road to Hana." It probably took us 10 hours and was totally worth it. It doesn't feel that long and there are lots of scenic stops and place to get food. There is the last portion of the road that is not well paved and a little rough which apparently you're not suppose to go on with your rentals. But, I would say that stretch of road in itself was worth the drive. It was so scenic without even getting out of the car.

In this picture you can see where the road is cut into the side of the cliffs.

I think this sign is funny.

This is a lava tube on the black sand beach.

This is the black sand beach.

We got lays along the way.

These are the seven pools (O'heo Gulch). Its a series of pools and streams that run from 2 miles inland and lead into the ocean

This is the not so paved portion of the road.

Hawaii: Day 4

Today we went on a Safari Boat Excursion! This was definitely a major highlight of our trip. It was a day long excursion that went around the island of Lanai.

On our way over to the island, there was a wrecked ship. Apparently, there was a fleet of these ships being used. But, when bigger better versions were built all the captains were told to sink there ships into deep water to get rid of them. One captain refused because he was so proud of his ship, so instead he sank it where would always be seen.

We saw a Hawaiian Monk Seal. There are estimate to be only about 1,200 left of this species.

We stop to snorkel at three different spots. This place had a lava tube underwater that you could swim through.

Most of the island we saw looked like this, thousand foot cliffs and bright blue water.
Towards the end of the day we came across a pod of about 300 Spinner Dolphins. They were just popping up all over the place. I have 4 more videos like this one. It was amazing!

Hawaii: Day 3

Day Three started really really early at 2:30am. We were picked up at the hotel and driven to the top of Haleakalā (10,023 ft above sea level), a dormant volcano, to see the sun rise. This picture is pretty much as good as it got. It was just above freezing and raining at the summit.

After missing the sunrise we drove down a a little ways to where it was a little dryer. From there, we biked down the volcano 26 miles which goes pretty fast down hill. We saw some much better views.

Hawaii: Day 2

In the morning we went snorkeling at Ahihi-Kina'u which is a Natural Underwater Preserve right off the beach.

We took the Atlantis Submarine tour in Lahaina

After the Sub Tour we went into Lahaina and saw the Banyan Tree which was planted in 1873 at 8 feet tall and now its over 60 feet tall and shades 2/3 of an acre.

Moving In

Everything is moved in, but we've barely unpacked.

Andrew's friend and fraternity brother, Tom, is staying with us this summer because he has an internship here. Before all the boxes were even unpacked Andrew and Tom were mounting the TV and planning out the entertainment system.

They are adding shelves to our fire wood box.

House Closing!!

We officially closed on our first house June 3, 2009 and we had the keys on June 4. Conveniently Sarah and Gabe just happened to be visiting Seattle, so we had extra help moving which was amazing! We were able to pack while Andrew was at work and we had everything in our new place by Friday evening.

Unfortunately, we forgot the silverware in the silverware drawer so we ate with extra large utensils that evening.

Indiana

We went to Indiana from May 22 to May 31 and it was a crazy busy fabulous week!

Mark and Kayla got married...

We headed down to Dale Hollow Lake for the holiday weekend...

Tracy and Sherri renewed their vows "dock style"

Redneck games were played...

Lots of potato salad was eaten and we had a few drinks...

Polka Boy at the Rathskeller was thoroughly enjoyed...

and of course Dawson's was on the menu with a little German Chocolate Cake for dessert...

We saw (most likely) our last NIN concert, with Jane's Addiction and Street Sweeper Social Club. I have to say I was unimpressed with Jane's Addiction and any hope I'd had for enjoying them was lost after he referred to the crowd as "crazy farm people" several times.
