The Finishing Touches
We finished the tiling last weekend, and I grouted during the week. Then this weekend it was just a few finishing touches, baseboards, a mirror, hanging the shower curtain, and the guest bathroom is complete.
This is what Andrew looks like after cutting tile all day.

A Vanity and Toilet Go In
Despite working quite a bit this past weekend Andrew was bound and determined to make progress in the guest bathroom. He was more motivated that I was, which is pretty unusual around here. The vanity we ordered from Home Depot arrived Friday so in preparation I grouted the newly laid tile floor Thursday, so Saturday evening we were able to get the new toilet and vanity installed and working with no leaks. Then tonight, with a little elbow grease and a suggestion from Papo, we managed to get the last bit of plumbing done and leak-free in the shower. That just means we have to put up the last section of backer board and tile the walls to complete the major overhaul in this room. Then it's just finishing touches... a mirror, shelves, baseboard... etc.

Let the Assembly Begin
We started to put the guest bathroom back together this weekend. It is already going so much faster than the master bathroom renovation... this is definitely a simpler redo. Tom was a great help on Saturday and we were able to get insulation in the walls (for sound), a niche mounted, and almost all the backer board cut and laid. Then on Sunday Andrew and I were able to lay all the floor tile in about 3 hours. Between the two of us, we've master the tile cutting and laying. He only had to make a second cut on one tile for the whole floor. Let's hope the shower walls go just as smoothly.

Guest Bath Demo
Despite our plan not to start any more major renovations, Andrew gutted the guest bathroom this weekend while I was out of town. I can't say I'm bothered to have another house project :)

The sinks are in, it's final!
We completed the bathroom just before Christmas, but it took me a while to get the pictures posted. You can see the before photo here.

The Shower is DONE!
The major overhaul is nearly complete! The grout is done curing (after 10 days!) and we were finally able to use our shower for the first time this weekend. Friday the uncracked counter top should arrive and if all goes smoothly the bathroom will be 100% done after this weekend. :) See the start of this project...

Tiling is 100% Done!
Yay! Finally! The tiling in the bathroom is done. Now we just need to finish grouting and install the fixtures and it will be ready to use. Andrew also wired the heated floors and they are amazing (our cats are obsessed with them).
Our vanity arrived and is in place, but unfortunately the counter top arrived with a slight crack so we are on hold until the replacement arrives... hopefully within the week.

Trying My Hand at Drywalling
Unfortunately Andrew has been working crazy, silly hours but I am bound and determine to keep making progress on the bathroom. This past weekend I finished the drywall, taped, mudded and laid the cement board for the floor. We have the plumbing complete for double sinks and Andrew did complete the wiring for our heated floor. Yay! I wasn't that excited about the heated floor initially but it will be so worth it in the end.

I taped and finished the walls myself after watching almost all of the videos from drywalling expert Laurier Desormeaux. He's pretty awesome! The true test will be putting on the first coat of primer. Wish me luck!

Bathroom Update 2

Master Bath Update
We've added the new pocket door for the walk-in closet. Once we pulled down the drywall we found a pocket door frame already there. Yay!

The new plumbing for the tub and shower are complete. We ended up using 'shark bit' attachments, pex and some soldering.

We've moved the old tub drain for the new tub and added a drain for the shower.

We've added the framing for the new tub and poured the pre-pitch for the shower base.

Let the major renovations begin...
Lately I have been itching to start another house project and with Andrew's current free time we decided to take on one of our most intimidating projects. Two days ago Andrew started removing the tiled wall of our master bathroom tub while I was at work. We're hoping to divide and conquer by starting with the shower/tub.
This is the "before" photo. It's not a fully functioning shower, just a gigantic tub that our water heater cannot keep up with. We have a shower head attached to the spout and mounted on the wall.

Day 1, about 3 hours in I think, this is what I came home to...
End of Day 1 (after we cleaned up)

Day 2, the tub is free, Andrew is happy!

... And I helped

End of day 2, plumbing disassembled, electric disconnected, and the tub is out in one piece!

The hideous tub currently living on our back porch...
